Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal will join the President and CEO of one of the nation’s largest housing builders to announce new employment opportunities for Atlanta residents.

PulteGroup, formerly located in Detroit, is moving its headquarters to Atlanta and CEO Richard J. Dugas will be joining Reed and Deal to announce a search for the company’s Atlanta-based staff.

The announcement will take place at the company’s new office near Lennox Square in Buckhead at 3350 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, Ga., 30326 at 10 a.m.

“We have historically managed our growth from Michigan, but the Company has reached a point where we must pursue a strategy that better fits with the long-term growth trends for our company and industry,” Dugas said earlier this year when the announcement of the company’s move to Atlanta was announced. “This relocation will bring us closer to our customers and a larger portion of our investment portfolio.”

“This was not an easy decision but I am confident that it is the right choice, at the right time, for the ongoing success of the organization,” he added.

PulteGroup spokesman James Zeumer also noted that one-third of the company’s business in 2012 took place in the southeast.

“This was about an opportunity for us to get a little bit closer to our customers and where our investments are being made, and that was really the focus and the genesis for the decision,” he said.

The company’s former Bloomfield Hills headquarters employed about 370 people, but not all of those jobs will be moving to Atlanta as the Michigan division operations are expected to stay in the state.

A release from Reed’s office did not state how many jobs would be coming to Atlanta or when Pulte would begin hiring.
